Saaweet place
There is a new sheriff in town, and his name is Van Diemen. I stopped in for a few drinks on Friday - giddy up!! Good vibe, good people, good tunes, cold drinks. Two thumbs up!

Shecky's Review - VanDiemens
Murray Hill—land of beer, button-downs, and flatscreens—gets a style upgrade with the opening of Van Diemens, a cavernous space with a party loft. The Irish and Aussie owners may call their bar "Van Diemens" after the original name for Tasmania, but it features a mostly American café menu, a large selection of brews, and a couple of plasmas. Tin ceilings, exposed brick, a glass front, and a private mezzanine with a skylight and a second bar help it stand out from the pub scene. Dim, dramatic lighting keeps the crowd looking good, and nightly DJs keep them on their feet. Just watch out for those Murray Hill i-bankers by day who fancy themselves Tasmanian devils by night. CitySearch Review
Although Van Diemens was the original name of Tasmania, this Murray Hill sports bar falls right in line with its neighborhood counterparts. Tall tin ceilings, exposed brick, red leather high-back bar stools and high bar tables surround a long walnut bar made with crown molding. Two enormous 8'-by-4' HD TVs dominate the front of the bar, while smaller screens find homes in the back area and at the upper level bar. Be sure to look out the front window to catch a great glimpse of the Empire State Building. Read Full Review >> |
